about us
We love living here in the Blackdown Hills. We arrived after a gradual journey westwards - following a long period working in London. First living in a couple of places in Dorset, then deciding to move to Devon to be closer to family. Now we welcome visitors and love to give them the perfect get away in one of Devon’s hidden valleys.
The Byre was used as a hay barn and cow shed until a few decades ago. The bedroom is the oldest part of the building, built some point in the 1800s (which is why it has such thick walls!) The rest of the building served as a winter shed for the cattle with a corrugated iron roof.
Our neighbouring farmhouse itself dates back to Tudor times. The core of it was built in the early 1500s, but there has been a house on the site since the time the Domesday book was written in 1086. The first recorded owner was Edric the Cripple in 1066.
